Course Description

A workshop to celebrate and explore a starry, starry night - part of the Dark Skies Festival. This watercolour workshop is suitable for all levels, from absolute beginners to anyone wanting to explore new techniques. No drawing needed. You’ll create two starry night skyscapes to take home with you. Using a limited but vibrant palette, you’ll explore a couple of easy to use techniques (cling film, spatter, masking fluid and wax resist) as well as practising more traditional washes and wet in wet painting. What to bring: All materials are provided and included in the price so you just need to bring yourself; however, an apron and something to take your lovely paintings home with you would also be useful. If would like to bring along some sketches or photos of your own to base your painting on then that's of course fine. Lunch is not provided so please bring along a packed lunch. Practicalities: The full address is: Southlands Methodist Church, 97 Bishopthorpe Road, York YO23 1NX. There is some parking on site. Refreshments (tea/coffee/biscuits) are available from the Saturday morning cafe in the Main Hall. Please let me know of any dietary restrictions beforehand - they are very accommodating. The workshop runs from 10 am to approx 3pm pm. If you have any questions at all, please do email ioneharrisonart@gmail.com. Your tutor: Ione is an landscape artist and tutor with over 30 years' teaching experience. Her aim in her teaching is twofold: for you to feel supported to develop confidence and skill in using the wonderful medium of watercolour; for you to have fun and spend an enjoyable time playing with colour (and water) in a non-judgemental environment.
